Thomas Baker has spent the past six months as Artist in Residence at the Mirek Smíšek kilns in Te Horo. He has drawn inspiration from Mirek’s legacy and techniques — salt firing and slips in particular. The time on the residency has allowed Baker to continue his exploration into these works, whilst giving space to see new perspectives and the opportunity to play. As he puts it, ‘Somewhere wobbling on the edge of function and failure.’
